BLUEWATER TALKS 'LEPRECHAUN' AND 'WARLOCK'
You can’t keep a good Leprechaun, nor an evil Warlock, down. The two movie rolls made famous by Warwick Davies (the "Harry Potter" movies, "Willow" and "Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy" movie) and Julian Sands ("24" and "RoseRed") are coming to a comic book store near you in 2009.

On Oct. 27, Publisher Darren G. Davis of Bluewater Productions, said Bluewater had made a deal with Lionsgate Films to make comic books out of the two horror properties. Lionsgate is the company that owns the rights to both the "Leprechaun" and "Warlock" movie franchises.

"Working with Lionsgate on this end is like coming back full circle for me. I worked on the marketing for ‘Leprechaun 4: In Space,'" said Davis. "I loved this little character and have always wanted to do something with him."

Writer Zach Hunchar, the scribe for Bluewater’s "Insane Jane," said he is excited to take on writing the "tiny terror." "I’m extremely excited to continue to explore the things that scare me and entertain me. I’m very happy Bluewater chose me for this task," said Hunchar. "‘Leprechaun’ is an immensely popular horror franchise and I’m excited about expanding the mythos. It [combines] two of my favorite things - Ireland and horror."

The story revolves around Lubdan, the last of the Leprechauns, in a race to reclaim his gold that has been scattered across the globe. Should the Leprechaun fail, then the Leprechauns will be gone forever.

"Lubdan’s quest takes him all over the planet, across time and space. Battling greed, the genocidal Cluracan and new mystical adversaries, Lubdan must save all life to save himself," said Davis. "As for ‘Warlock,' this was another cult film that I enjoyed."

The adaptation of "Warlock" will deal with its titular lead seeking "to destroy a book that contains a spell which imprisoned six other Warlocks. If the book manages to be destroyed, the dangerous Warlocks would be released back into the world free to cause chaos and destruction. It's up to a rag-tag group of people to prevent the Warlock from carrying out his plan."

Nick Lyons, who's set to pen the book, said this adaptation will cater to both "veterans" and "newbies" of the series.

As for other creators involved with both projects, Davis announced artist Kris Carter will draw Leprechaun and writer Michael Kingston will be writing the second story arc. Warlock will be drawn by Jacob Bear and colored by John Hunt. Matt Bellisle will be doing all the alternate covers to this title.

"Having this opportunity to partner with Lionsgate again is going to great," said Davis.
