[WIZARD WORLD TEXAS PREVIEW] FIVE 'ASTONISHING' JOHN CASSADAY MOMENTSWhen the creative team of Joss Whedon and John Cassaday began telling their amazing Astonishing X-Men saga, we were floored.

Not only was Whedon's story top-notch, but the art Cassaday brought to the X-Men was of an artistic level that hadn't been seen in years.

To prep for the astonishing artist's appearance at Wizard World Texas, take a look at some of the prettiest Astonishing X-Men art Cassaday delivered with five of Wizard's favorite images from the series.

Fastball Special
By far the biggest payoff moment in the first arc of Astonishing, the first real fastball special since Colossus's death deserved nothing less than a splash page of epic proportions, and Cassaday delivered. The now well-known spread from Astonishing X-Men #6 will remain one of our favorites for years to come. No dialogue clutters this beautiful piece of art which gets everything right. From Colossus's follow-through to the break in the clouds, this is one for the history books.

Web-Head
Giant-Size Astonishing X-Men opened with a splash page of an unexpected character: Spider-Man. Cassaday's depiction of Spidey is spot on and made us want to see his able hand sketching the ol' Web-Head in the future.

Colossus and the Cat
The cover to Astonishing X-Men #6 showcased one of the most beautifully haunting images of the entire series. Having just rescued the imprisoned love of her life, the image of Kitty Pryde embracing the softspoken, armored X-Man was not only appropriate, it rekindled a romance thought to have died with the destruction of the Legacy Virus.

Heroes United
The wraparound cover for Giant-Size Astonishing X-Men not only showcased Cassaday's mastery of the characters he had been drawing for 24 issues, but his talent at drawing the rest of the Marvel Universe, as well. Everyone from New Avengers to the Fantastic Four join the Astonishing mainstay cast on this awesome cover.

Shadowcat's Revenge
Whedon's writing reminded readers how much we all love Kitty Pryde, but Cassaday's art put us over the edge on teh character in this homage to the final panel of Uncanny X-Men #132. Much like Wolverine in the Uncanny issue, Kitty's motivation is very much the same: find her enemies and make them pay. Everything from Kitty's body language to her facial expression easily make this panel one of Cassaday's best in the series.
