PREVIOUSLY IN THE X-BOOKS:
Recently the X-Men fought a protracted battle to save the life of the newest mutant baby. To shield the child from those who would do her harm, the mysterious mutant Cable traveled with her into the timestream. Afterward, the rogue X-Man Bishop—who sought to kill the baby and prevent his hellish future from becoming reality—shot Professor Xavier in the head. With their founder and mentor gone, and his dream seemingly dead with him, Cyclops announced that the X-Men are no more.

A new era in mutant history has begun. With their former base destroyed, the X-Men have relocated to San Francisco in hopes of establishing a new safe haven for their kind. Mutants now number only a few hundred and Cyclops, the leader of the X-Men, is determined to protect this fragile community by any means necessary.

X-Men: Manifest Destiny #1

What happened:

Story 1:
As the X-Men decided to disband, Bobby Drake stayed in New York and moved in with his ex-girlfriend Opal Tanaka. Unfortunately, Bobby still suffers from an injury caused by Mystique. He has no control over his powers and although he wants a normal life, Opal suggests talking with Beast. Hank sends an X-Jet on auto-pilot and asks Bobby to take it back to San Francisco, where Hank will run tests on him. Opal offers to accompany her boyfriend.

On the plane, Opal is troubled by what Mystique did to Bobby. He tells her what happened. Bobby is surprised by an explosion at the back of the jet and despite his suffering, uses his powers to fix the hole. Opal then reveals herself as Mystique and shoots Iceman. She kicks him and Bobby smashes through the ice wall he just created, falling to the ground in the middle of nowhere; the jet crashes too. Rescue teams fly over the area, saying that it's been a week since the crashing and no one was found; they assume any passengers are already that. Bobby swims in a pond and comes out of the water. He wears off his ice form and lies unconscious on the ground.

Story 2:
Tabitha Smith, a.k.a. Boom-Boom, a.k.a. Meltdown is on a shopping spree in San Francisco. On her way to the next sale, she witnesses a robbery by a local costumed villain. Tabitha's misses the thief and accidentally blows up the store, giving the villain – named Nuwa – an opportunity to take the X-Woman down and escape.

Later in the X-Men HQ, Tabitha is in Hank's lab and takes out all of her frustrations about the incident. Hank offers her to look the meaning of "Nuwa" on the internet. Tabitha finds information on Nuwa's Facespace profile page. She discovers her power is sedating. Tabitha gets angrier when she realizes the villain has more virtual friends than her.

Shortly after, Tabitha is out in the street, this time staking out Nuwa. Tabitha surprises Nuwa as she empties a register. Nuwa makes the mutant sleepy, but this time Tabitha is immune to her powers – after drinking a cup of coffee. Tabitha then blows up the criminal couple of times, coming out victorious.

Story 3:
Karma and Emma Frost sit in a room, the latter testing the young mutant's control. Xi'an refuses to accept her weakness, she is proud of herself always being in control. Emma tells her she must take control over her own life before she can use her powers to take control over others. Shan remembers everything she's been through in life, how she always been in control and made her own decisions.

Shan picks up her little twin siblings, her only living relatives, and proud in the fact she raises them alone. When the kids sleep later that night, Shan recalls her early days as a New Mutant and how she always was the mature one. She also recalls the times when she lost control and hope, but eventually regained them. The thing that breaks her is the thought about losing Kitty and the fact she wasn't there to help her best friend. The twins wake up and are enthusiast to see Kitty's photo, asking for her o come over. Shan can't calm them down and gets angrier, accidentally uses her powers on the kids. She remembers what Emma told her and comes to realization that she really lost control over her life and powers. Shan cries and asks for the forgiveness of her siblings, knowing that she must overcome her weakness.

Every flight is a first class travel for the X-Men. No wonder humans want them dead.

Are there any X-Men left who Mystique didn't mess with? Beak is no longer a mutant, but he's looking for a new arch-nemesis.

I know what Hank is missing in his life: The awesomeness that is Dirk Anger!

Hank has no personal page, but you can be friends with the Xavier Institute on MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/xmen_forever

Obviously Xi'an doesn't read comic books, so she doesn't know everyone returns from death or limbo eventually.
