THE HOT LIST: JUNE 9Movies

The Incredible Hulk
Friday, June 13
Rated PG-13

You wouldn't like the Hulk when he's angry, so it's best not to annoy the fella. The quickest way to annoy him is to give him a film adaptation that divides critics and has a decidedly negative audience reaction. That's what the first Hulk film did, and the green goliath wasn't exactly happy about it. Let's hope the second crack at bringing the Hulk to the big screen goes along a lot smoother, for the sake of the planet.

Replacing Eric Bana as Bruce Banner is Ed Norton, who also contributed to the screenplay. It's not a straight up remake of the Hulk origin, but it's not a straight sequel either. Banner is on the run from the government, who consider him to be a weapon and the property of the United States military.

Capturing the Hulk is quite a difficult ordeal, so one of the soldiers offers to be injected with a super soldier serum in order to fight the big guy. The experiment doesn't exactly go as planned and produces what can only be described as an abomination. All you need to know is that two big green guys punch each other and it looks really cool.

The Happening
Friday, June 13
Rated R

Here's how knowing about movies works. There are four states of being aware of films: Cool, Groovy, Hip and Square - in that descending order. The square is seldom if ever cool. He is "not with it," that is he doesn’t know "what’s happening." But if he figures it out, he moves up a notch to "hip." And if he can bring himself to approve of what is happening then, he becomes "groovy." And after that with much luck and perseverance, he can rise to the rank of "cool."

Do you know what's happening? If so, either your name is Rerun or you've read spoilers about M. Knight Shymalan's newest film. In that case, please refrain from spoiling any stupid plot twists for the rest of the audience, who take great pleasure in seeing how ridiculous they can be. This is Shymalan's first R-rated film, and features many scenes of grisly violence. At least there will be plenty of gore to entertain you should the plot be groan inducing.
Video Games

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
Friday, June 13
Playstation 3
$59.99

Oh, lordy. Another Metal Gear Solid game is upon us. More labyrinthine plots, hour long cut scenes and stealth espionage action! This time, Solid Snake looks like Nick Fury with his wrinkles and eye patch, but don't let the gray hair fool you. He can still snap necks with the best of them. Heck, they even found a way to make Raiden look cool. Okay, that's a lie. He still looks ridiculous.

We could try to recap the plot of the Metal Gear saga and get you up to speed for the finally, but your head would probably explode. You could spend hours reading about that stuff on Wikipedia and still not understand it, but that's part of the fun. By the end of this game you'll probably be more confused by the Tom Clancy on crack plotline, but you'll have had fun getting there.

The Incredible Hulk
Tuesday, June 10
PC
$29.99

The coolest video games are often the ones where you get to punch a lot of things, make stuff explode, destroy buildings and generally cause as much havoc as possible and being unstoppable. It just so happens that those are some of the coolest things about The Incredible Hulk as well. It appears that video games and the Hulk are made for each other!

If you're in the mood to go into an unstoppable rage, the Hulk is available in video game form for almost every console out there. You can destroy cities while playing at home on your Xbox 360 or while on the subway with your Nintendo DS. Just be sure not to flip out and Hulk out should somebody bump into you can mess up your game. You aren't as strong as the Hulk and people on the subway are pretty tough.
Comic Books

Skaar: Son of Hulk #1
Greg Pak (W); Ron Garney (A)
Marvel Comics

In between all that smashing and yelling at things, the Hulk just likes to relax. As the man says, the Hulk just wants to be left alone…unless it's a sexy lady trying to interrupt him. In that case, he's more than happy to put on the Marvin Gaye and get it on. Unfortunately, the passion that fuels the Hulk leads him to overlook things like protection and prophylactics, leading to little things like pregnancy and children.

True to form, the Hulk is kind of a deadbeat dad. While he was busy waging war on Earth, his orphaned son living the hard knock life. Skaar is the greatest warrior on the war ravaged planet on which he lives, but he's far from a nice guy. When conflict threatens to tear the entire planet apart and innocents are put at risk, will Skaar rush to the aid of the little man or just be a jerk like he dear old dad?

Secret Invasion: Who Do You Trust
Various
Marvel Comics

Who do you trust? Your mom? Your dad? Your significant other? Politicians? Well, all your trust is misplaced. All those people are Skrulls! Yes, it's true. Did you really think your actual human father would wear jean shorts and tuck his shirt into them at all times, allowing his sizable gut to display itself? Would your real mom really buy a Bedazzlder? Wake up! They've been replaced by Skrulls! The only people you can trust in this world are Patrick Swayze and Jean Claude Van Damme.

This one-shot takes readers for a grand tour of all the Skull-related happenings occurring in the Marvel universe. What is Captain Marvel up to now that he knows what he really is? Is Marvel Boy going to finally do something or just make brief cameos in comics before vanishing again? What's up with Wonder Man and Beast? All these answers and more will be revealed, provided you trust the writers.
