Wizard World Philly hosts first ToyFare Hall of Fame Awards

Posted 5/30/2008
Wizard World Programming Director Adam Tracey and ToyFare Associate Editor TJ Dietsch hosted the First Annual ToyFare Hall of Fame Awards, which inducted Randy Falk, Clayburn Moore, the Four Horsemen (the action figure sculptors, not the ones from the bible) and Diamond Select Toys.

The ceremony kicked out with the induction of Diamond Select for their MiniMates line. The line consists of miniaturized versions of countless characters from Marvel and DC Comics; television shows such as "Battlestar Galactica," "Star Trek" and "24," and movies like "Back to the Future" and "Rocky." The 2-inch figures come with 14 points of articulation, making them extremely poseable and tons of fun!
[WWPhilly] TOYFARE HALL OF FAME AWARDSA film presentation of a Twisted ToyFare Theatre animation of the MiniMates line followed, featuring movie posters redone with the MiniMate toys instead of the actor. Chuck Terciera accepted the award. "Since MiniMates don't speak, they have no noses, I've been picked to speak for them," said Tercera. Thanks his wife, his son ("his number one play tester") and his daughter ("who puts them in her mouth and I have to run screaming, 'Please don't'"). He also thanked everyone involved in the MiniMate line—from inception to design to factory workers to deal brokers.

Through work at Mattel and NECA, the Four Horsemen—Chris Dahlberg, Jim Preziosi, Eric Treadaway an Eric "Cornboy" Mayse—sculpted many iconic heroes such as He-Man and Batman. The bringers of awesome also ride high with their Seventh Kingdom line of toys, which fans hold in extremely high regard.

Another Twisted ToyFare Theatre animation followed featuring toys from the Masters of the Universe line, Batman toys, Seventh Kingdom and Superman. The four came up on stage to accept the award after the film.

"I'm being chosen to speak because I'm the big mouth," joked Mayse. "As kids, it was always a dream of ours to play with action figures and eventually create our own. There's nothing more special than getting recognized for doing something you love to do."

C.S. Moore Studios stands proud for its sculptures of many modern day comic characters, such as Fathom and Witchblade. Moore, the man behind the studio, also brought many often overlooked properties to life through Moore Action Collectibles.

The TTT animation for Moore began with a spoof of Buffy staking Vampirella and deflating her boob. A showcase of toys followed featuring the Darkness, Witchblade, Thor and an image of Moore sculpting. Moore came on stage to accept the award.

"What can I say? Look at this thing, beautiful statue. Nicely done," said Moore of the award, which was sculpted by master sculptor Tim Bruckner (www.timbruckner.com) and hand-painted by prototype painter Kat Sapene (www.waktoys.com). Moore thanked Erik Larsen for giving him the chance with Savage Dragon.

"It's just a real honor and a real surprise," said Moore.

Falk, director of product development for NECA, helped bring to life some of pop culture's most iconic characters, including John Lennon, Harry Potter and Jack Sparrow.

The final video began with a "Harry Potter" and "Ghostbusters" crossover. The showcase featured sculpts from numerous films, including "Nightmare Before Christmas," "American Psycho," "Harry Potter" and "Ghostbusters."

"First, I want to say the AV Club did an awesome job," said Falk. "I'm really, really touched by this." Falk said he "can't sculpt for anything" and went on to thank everyone involved in the product making process.

"I've met some of my best friends and the best people in this business," said Falk. "To have ToyFare and Wizard to take the time out and honor us is just a huge, huge pat on the back I really appreciate."
