X-MEN 'DIVIDED WE STAND' ROUND-UP: 5/14/2008 PART 2

Recently in X-Men: Legacy: Professor Xavier nearly died after suffering a gunshot wound to the head. His mind was reconstructed by the mutant Exodus, but large sections of his memory are still missing. Disconnected from his past, and without the support of his X-Men, Xavier is eager to find his place in the new mutant landscape.

Meanwhile Sebastian Shaw, former head of the Hellfire Club and Xavier’s longtime rival, has also lost his leadership position by being ousted as the head of his organization. After discovering that one of his mysterious monitoring devices exploded while registering strange readings, he began probing his files concerning “Project Cronus.”

What happened:
• In a secluded cabin in an unknown place, Juggernaut wakes up and accuses and unseen figure of trying to infiltrate his mind. He promises to come looking for that being in the morning.

• Las Cruces, New Mexico: Charles Xavier is sleeping and dreaming about his twin sister, Cassandra Nova. She tells him that his current journey after their father is doomed, since Charles' actions as a father caused horrible results, whether it's his son David or when he became part of the Brood.

• The day after, Charles visits a psychiatric facility where his childhood friend and nemesis Carter Ryking, a.k.a. Hazard, is being held. His mental state in bad shape since M-Day when he lost his abilities, he's still kind of there as he recognizes Charles and is willing to let him peek into his mind for a glimpse at their childhood Charles can't remember.

• Charles sees his father volunteering him for tests by fellow scientists due to his mutant abilities. Through Carter's eyes, Charles notices that the geneticist who tested them, Dr. Nathan Milbury, had a unique red diamond on his forehead.

• Before Charles leaves, Carter mumbles something about living forever and that his countdown is almost finished.

• Outside, Charles feels that he's being followed but can't telepathically pick out the source. He uses pigeons to take down a sniper (that he sensed due to his "emptiness" in the mindscape, i.e. the sense his mind was shielded) on a roof and drives away.

• The Hellfire Club, Manhattan: Sebastian Shaw explains to the members of the Inner Circle and Lord Imperial Roberto da Costa (a.k.a. Sunspot) the Project Cronus incident. He says that his father created that machine and, before he died, told Sebastian to look for it but never explained its use. Shaw promises to investigate the machine and report personally to da Costa. When Shaw leaves the room, Roberto tells the other members that soon there will be a free position in the Inner Circle.

• In the Ryking Secure Psychiatric Facility, Carter is having a seizure, but before the male nurses inject him with a tranquilizer, he falls down and dies.

• In his motel room, Xavier is still looking for answers and focuses on a photo of his father Brian with his colleagues: his future step-father Kurt Cain; Irene Adler and Nathan Milbury.

• Charles goes into trance, looking for answers. He finds himself in a lab checking on Jean Grey after the shuttle crash that made her into the Phoenix. She describes her experience and how she feels more alive. Their conversation about life and death stops when Charles experiences—again—Bishop's headshot that started him on this journey of self-discovery.

• Charles comes out of trance and senses something is wrong. He's about to be attacked, but there are no animals outside to enter the minds of and see his attackers now. His telepathy is useless.

• A couple of men in black are about to break the door to his room, cutting off the phone and electricity lines. Right before breaking in, they are surprised by a sudden light—Gambit is behind them holding cards.

It runs in the family

Bald in the womb, bald in adulthood; the twins of the Xavier family share the same hair problems, and remember—one of them is a female.

Sinister motivations

Seems like a certain geneticist was a big part of young Charlie Xavier's life, even if he doesn't quite realize that yet.

Birds of Prey

At least Charles still remembers Hitchcock's movies.

Shaw him the door

Sebastian Shaw's recent actions may cost him his position in the Hellfire Club, but trust him to eventually turn it over on his opponents.

Ce que un ace!

Gambit is here and the "Ace" is ready to blast his way back to the forefront.
