Christian Major’s pitch goes into production!

Vancouver, British Columbia This week's winner of Canada Comic Creation Nation is Christian Major. Major's pitch Deutschmaschine went up against some tough competition, but the fans voted and crowned a winner. Deutschmaschine is now being produced online by Zeros 2 Heroes Media.

"Deutschmaschine herself was a drawing on a piece of Bristol, with no history, purpose or world to evolve in. I never thought of pitching anything using her until the Unofficial Think-Up project caught me staring at the screen with Cyberpunk as a Genre. Two weeks later, a rough draft of mine became public and then critical reactions, members' feedback and support, and my surprised self contributed to make it evolve into what it is today," says Major on the development of his pitch.

Taking place in 22nd century Earth, Deutschmaschine focuses on Gabrielle, codename: Deutschmaschine, one of the most efficient cyber-augmented Shadow Ops units in the whole European Union Economic Council. Deutschmaschine is rich, entertained and has purpose in life once again - until one of her marks, a man who mysteriously escaped his demise years ago at her hand, resurfaces and threatens to bring the whole corporate world down on her.

Christian Major will now work with Zeros 2 Heroes comic editors and artists to produce Deutschmaschine online. Winning Comic Creation Nation not only gives Major a fully produced online book, but Zeros 2 Heroes is also working to spread the word about Deutschmaschine and Major's journey from zero to hero.

As part of the Zeros 2 Heroes mandate, Deutschmaschine will be published online in comic form as well as be promoted as an entire concept for film, television and video games. The first step is to refine the story as much as possible and produce the book for online viewers.

"Most big publishers are not going to read cold submissions, but they will read smaller press comics. In fact, many of the big publishers do their writer scouting from indie books," says Zeros 2 Heroes Editor-in Chief Paul Dini.

"Fans know what a good story is and where it can go so we trust them to decide what ideas we should invest in. Christian's talent and creativity shined brightly in his pitch and I have no doubt that the fans made a great decision to see Deutschmaschine go into production," says Zeroes 2 Heroes Media Chairman Paul Gertz.

Telefilm Canada plays in integral part in the development of Canadian writers and artists and helping pitches come to life with Canada Comic Creation Nation is another way for them to lend a hand. "This cross-platform entertainment opportunity is exactly what we're looking for in terms of our corporate mandate," says Western Region Director Earl Hong Tai of Telefilm Canada.

"This is not a mere popularity contest; this is a job opportunity. Your votes, your career depends on your passion, image and professionalism, and these will follow you all your lives. Stay true to yourself, but mind your liberties: you never lose when you're mindful of yourself and others," says Major when asked about advice to other writers looking to pitch.

Zeros 2 Heroes plans to award all Canada Comic Creation Nation winners with a published online comic. All creators are encouraged to pitch their ideas online in order to let the fans decide what they would like to see. As the contest continues, members of the Zeros 2 Heroes community will rate, review and ultimately choose one winner for every week.
