ALL IS 'LOST' 4/22

The weekly lowdown on the upcoming episode of 'Lost!'
By Josh Wigler
Posted 4/22/2008
If you love Lost then you know what it's been like to spend sleepless nights wondering what's up with Jacob's cabin, fantasizing about the implications of time travel between the island and the real world and impatiently waiting to learn the secrets of the Oceanic Six. The wait between episodes can be unbearable, sometimes so much so that it makes you want to jump off a bridge! But here at Wizard Universe we don't condone suicide to avoid the agonizing wait between episodes, much like this writer's psychiatrist and the island itself. So, in hopes of helping you fight off the urge to end it all rather than wait a week, we offer this article as a healthy alternative for those suffering from terminal Lost withdrawal.

Warning: Potential Spoilers Lie Within!
ALL IS 'LOST' 4/22

"THE SHAPE OF THINGS TO COME"

It's baaaack! Lost returns on April 24 with the first of six new hours. Episode nine of the hit fourth season is entitled "The Shape of Things to Come," and it's the first episode since the Michael-centric "Meet Kevin Johnson" on March 20. A full month has passed since Lost fans around the world collectively soiled themselves as diet-Other Karl and island hermit Danielle were gunned down in cold blood by unseen snipers. New questions linger: Who shot D.R.? What's going to happen to the captured Alex? And just where are these assassins going? "The Shape of Things to Come" promises to address these questions as it reveals the, well, shape of things to come for the remainder of the season.

Trouble in Paradise

When Lost returns on Thursday, it does so with a bang. Literally. ABC's official description of the episode reveals that "Locke's camp comes under attack, and Jack tries to discover the identity of a body that has washed ashore." It seems that both the man of science and the man of faith have got their hands full in the latest episode, and that perhaps Ben's ominous warning that the freighter people intend to kill everybody on the island may hold some truth.

The Man Behind the Curtain

Benjamin Linus is a big fat liar. He originally claimed to be Henry Gale, a man who is currently enjoying a leisurely nap under the shade of a hot air balloon and six feet of dirt. He has also falsely stated that he's lived his entire life on the mysterious island. Thanks to the revelation of a secret room filled with clothes, money and fake IDs, we now know that Ben fancies himself a trip around the world every now and then. In "The Shape of Things to Come," we may just learn where Ben has been traveling.

Whispers abound that the upcoming episode will be a Ben-centric flash forward. Michael Emerson, the actor who portrays the creepy little Other, teased to Entertainment Weekly that we'll be seeing an "all-Ben extravaganza" that features "combat, riding horses [and] foreign languages." Further, leaked set pictures show Ben sneaking around a middle-eastern village, indicating that he may cross paths with Sayid Jarrah. Is it possible that this is the episode in which Sayid, who stated that "the day I start trusting him [Ben] is the day I will have sold my soul," will be recruited into Ben's fold?

Claire and Present Danger

It's been a tough ride for Claire Littleton since Oceanic 815 crashed, and it doesn't look like things will be getting any easier. Rumors persist that Emilie de Ravin, who plays the single mother, may be gearing up to join Charlie, Boone and Shannon on the big island in the sky. TV Guide's Michael Ausiello reports that "Claire is in significant danger in this season's Episode Nine," which leads one to suspect that rumors of de Ravin's departure may not be unfounded. Let's also not forget that in the future, Kate is raising Aaron with Claire unaccounted for, which does not bode well for her fate.

But all is not lost (heh-heh) for Claire. Recall that during the third season's penultimate episode, the clairvoyant Desmond told Charlie that he'd had a vision of Claire and Aaron boarding a helicopter. We have yet to see this happen. Perhaps, then, there is a glimmer of hope for Claire's future on the show. But if she is planning on joining the freaky freighter folk on one of their helicopters then perhaps death would be the more merciful option for poor Claire.

When not watching Lost, Josh Wigler spends his time drinking stale Dharma beer in the middle of the jungle while waiting to be abducted by The Others. Unfortunately, he is not on Jacob's list. It's like high school all over again.

Lost is broadcasted by ABC on Thursday nights at 10:00 PM EST. "The Shape of Things to Come" airs on Thursday, April 24, at 10:00 PM EST.
