The sci-fi writer talks about his upcoming comic and books projects along with tips for writers

Renowned science fiction novelist and recent comic book creator, Orson Scott Card took some time out today to talk about his upcoming projects and what it takes to become a good writer.

He started the Spotlight by reminding attendees that Marvel will be creating comics based on his best selling novels Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow and mentioned that the separate stories will both tell the same scenes from different angles, just like the books.

Card also announced that the next book in the series Ender's Exile will be out this fall, noting that it takes him a little longer to put out his sequels because he always wants them to be better than the originals.

In other news, Scott explained that there was a bit of snag with his current comic series Ultimate Iron Man II in which Marvel thought the series would be four issues long, while he intended five. He's working on the last issue now and mentioned that he’s really trying to get into the thought process of Tony Stark, wanting to know why a billionaire would strap on a suit of armor and put himself out there.

Card went on to talk about his next book from Del Rey called Lost Gate and will be in his contemporary fantasy vein.

The writer also treated the audience to a quick version of his writing class by reminding them to stop aspiring and start writing, keep asking “why?” and to learn story structure.
