[NYCC] NEW DARK KNIGHT TRAILER SNEAKS INTO NYCC

Footage heavy with the Joker arrives two weeks early thanks to Warner Bros. surprise

[NYCC] NEW DARK KNIGHT TRAILER SNEAKS INTO NYCCPaul Levitz, publisher of DC Comics, introduced a new "Dark Knight" clip before the panel for Loinsgate's upcoming film "The Spirit." When he mentioned director Christopher Nolan by name, the crowd exploded with applause. The clip is the new trailer and will be seen by the public in about two weeks.

In the clip, there's lots of footage that’s already been seen in past trailers—such as Bruce Wayne interacting with Harvey Dent and the Dark Knight in the high-powered Bat-mobile—but there was loads more new Joker stuff. At one point, the Joker approaches a room filled with what appear to be criminals and tells them that things can be easier for them in Gotham if they just kill Batman. After that, there's a few flashes of scenes including the one where Joker invades a gala event with his henchmen and another where he takes to the streets with a machine gun. Then it's a flash of scenes again, including one where Harvey Dent is having what appears to be gasoline poured on him.

In the end, the clip was short, but incredibly exciting. Hearing Heath Ledger’s Joker speak in a creepy, near high-pitch adds a whole new level of awesome after having only seen pictures of the character over the last few months.

The film opens July 18 and stars Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Aaron Eckhart, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman and Maggie Gylenhaal.
