CARTOON NETWORK AIRS ‘BLUE DRAGON’

Anime adaptation of fantasy RPG hits U.S. airwaves this weekend
Posted 03/28/08
CARTOON NETWORK AIRS ‘BLUE DRAGON’If you thought Blue Dragon began and ended with the Xbox 360 RPG, think again: it’s got merchandise, manga and anime to its name, and the latest to hit North America is the Blue Dragon TV series.

The first season of the Blue Dragon anime starts up on Cartoon Network’s Toonami block at 10:30 p.m. this Saturday, March 29. Directed by Yukihito Matsushita (Maria Watches Over Us), the show features heroic young Shu, his catlike companion Marumaro and numerous other characters from the fantasy RPG released last year by Microsoft and Mistwalker.

Like the game, the Blue Dragon anime features characters based on designs by Akira Toriyama of Dragon Ball fame, along with music by Final Fantasy mainstay Nobuo Uematsu and a story originally conceived by Final Fantasy creater Hironobu Sakaguchi. The series was recently renewed for a second season, set to launch this April in Japan.
