THURSDAY MORNING QUARTERBACK

KEVIN “I want to comment on this, my favorite ‘Line of the Week’: Wolverine is flirting with Echo, and he says to her, ‘Don’t worry, you’ll hit on me. It’s my curse.’ I hate Wolverine! He’s got everything! He’s super-tough, he’s got rad powers and now he’s pissed cuz women hit on him. Whatever! Eff Wolverine!”

[LAUGHS]

ANDY: “Okay, so Kevin’s crazy rant about a fictional character aside…”

JIM “THIS is what should be happening from Bendis leading up to his big event. I thought this was going to be an issue that would be a big story in the life of Echo. I kept thinking they’re finally going to give me all sorts of info about her. But I still don’t know much about her; can she do more than read lips?”

KEVIN “She can replicate all physical moves she sees. But my question is, what’s up with the handprint on her face? Is that supposed to be like her Bat-symbol or something?”

JIM “I think David Mack’s art here is fantastic. I love his panel layout and pacing, it’s very compelling, even if I can’t figure out what’s up with her covering her eye with her hand in the opening and closing sequences. I don’t know what that means, but it means something. Some major stuff happens.”

KEVIN “Yeah, like the Daredevil who shows up to meet Echo and turns out to be a Skrull? Basically, that’s the whole jist of the issue: Echo’s worried about her role on the team, she has a heart to hear with Wolverine about it, then she splits to go find Daredevil and get his take. Daredevil turns out to be a Skrull, but Wolverine shows up to help her out and they manage to fight him off.”

ANDY: “My question is, is that the real Daredevil that we’ve been seeing the whole time? I think it’s just a Skrull who’s pretending to be DD and is hanging out waiting for Echo to show up.”

JIM “This is my feeling. DD pops up, cool. But he’s the least prepared Skrull ever. He gets fooled so quickly by Echo when they’re talking about Cap, you would think he should have better intel! And I don’t know if you’ve read Ms. Marvel yet, but this is the second X-Men powered Super-SKrull, which is rad. Although they don’t have the personality of Klrrt, the original Super-Skrull with the FF powers. Either way, it’s some crazy stuff. But I think Wolverine needs a new move; this power dive off the roof isn’t working out for him too well. He ends up getting blasted by repulsor rays, then set on fire!”

KEVIN “I think that’s why he keeps doing it; he’s going to keep at it till it works. What do you think of the developing romance between Ronin and Echo.”

ANDY: “I will never call him Ronin, no matter what costume he’s wearing; he’s Hawkeye. But I think it’s interesting, especially if it sets up a love triangle with Hawkeye, Echo and Wolverine. I would love to see Hawk and Wolverine throw down; he will fill Logan with enough arrows to make him look like a pin cushion.”

JIM “I think you just saw that in Ultimates 3.”

KEVIN “It seems pointless to fight over her; they’ve both slept with so many people combined, it seems like overkill. And I think Hawkeye’s still scarred emotionally from Mockingbird’s death. He’s just looking for a temporary fling. Didn’t he just sleep with Scarlet Witch not too long ago?”

JIM “Did anyone else notice Clint’s wearing an MC Chris T-shirt? he’s from my hometown, so I have to call that out. This is a pretty sexy scene though, between Clint and Echo. Probably the sexiest ever.”

KEVIN “How’s this sexy? They’re just sitting there!”

JIM “They’re sharing tea on the roof at sunset after doing yoga, so it’s very intimate. Then it’s all shots of their eyes, and those are the windows to the soul. But I do think this relationship could be interesting because they’re two of the characters who haven’t been delved into much, and it’s about time a little romance spiced up the book. You haven’t seen that much. And it gives Clint a lot of purpose as he’s been trying to figure out what his role should be.”

KEVIN “Relationships are cool, but this seems random. He just hooked up with the Scarlet Witch, and these two haven’t shown any interest in each other until she walked in on him in the shower a couple issues ago. I think it all boils down to just one thing: He just want to get laid!” [LAUGHS]
