14. PRINCESS LEIA ORGANA (Star Wars, 1977)
This is no pampered princess. Leia put herself on the frontlines of the Rebellion and became an invaluable leader in the Rebel Alliance. She even choked a giant slug-gangster to death. Now that is hardcore.

13. RIVER TAM (Firefly, 2002)
Transformed by an evil government into an unstoppable killing machine, child prodigy River proved to be a major threat to that same government because she’s…an unstoppable killing machine. Go figure. Her fighting style has to be seen to be believed.
FIGURE IT OUT: Tam’s been the subject of statues and PVC figurines, but she needs a killer toy!

12. RED SONJA (Marvel comics, 1973)
They don’t call her “She-Devil with a Sword” for nothing. With her scale armor bikini and flaming red hair, this savage Conan compatriot can best any man in combat…which puts a crimp on her love life, since she can only sleep with men who defeat her in battle.
FIGURE IT OUT: Believe it or not, Sonja has never had a figure! Maybe Dynamite Entertainment, makers of fine Red Sonja statues, can step up to the plate.

11. XENA (Xena: Warrior Princess, 1995)
The title says it all: Xena is a warrior, through and through. With her fearsome chakram and just slightly silly battle cry, she’s the epitome of badass. And befitting of that, in the end, she goes down fighting.

10. AMERICAN MAID (The Tick, 1994)
It’s easy to look like a pro compared to heroes like the Tick and Die Fledermaus. But American Maid is more than just the least goofy hero in the City—she’s a kick-ass, take-charge inspiration to superheroines everywhere, despite her domestic trappings.

9. EMMA FROST (Marvel Comics, 1980)
From Hellfire villain to hero with a hidden agenda, the telepathic Frost has made quite an impression on the X-Men over the years. She recently became the headmistress of the Xavier Institute...and a certain one-eyed mutant.
