'ToyFare' ranks pop culture's 100 most kick-ass women
By Tracey John
Posted 03/18/08
Forget the "sexiest" women; what about the ones who look good and kick ass, metaphorically and literally? From comics to television to film, ToyFare celebrates the fairer sex and runs down the 100 toughest, roughest, most powerful and most indelible women in genre fiction—and calls out the ones who criminally don’t have toys! Check out the Top 20 below.

PULP VIXENS

20. SHE-RA (She-Ra: Princess of Power, 1985)
They don’t call you “Princess of Power” if you don’t have the chops to back it up. Despite having a smaller stature than her brother, He-Man, She-Ra took on a much tougher baddie than Skeletor—the truly scary Hordak.

19. LEELOO (The Fifth Element, 1997)
Leelo is known as the “perfect being,” and we find it hard to argue. She saves all life on Earth with her crazy fighting skills (and her love), all while speaking a nonsensical holy language and wearing a roll of masking tape.
FIGURE IT OUT: N2 toys nearly did figures a few years back and it breaks our hearts that no one else has picked up the baton.

18. EOWYN (The Lord of the Rings, 1954)
Not satisfied with sitting on the sidelines, Eowyn disguised herself to fight in the epic battle at Gondor. In the process, she stabs the badass Witch King in the face and gets the best pre-kill quip in the whole (movie) trilogy.

17. BLACK CANARY (DC Comics, 1947)
Don’t let the fishnets fool you: Dinah Lance is a second-generation hero and martial arts expert with a sonic attack that can knock you flat on your ass. Her mind is just as sharp—she was recently elected the first Chairwoman of the Justice League!

16. EVIL-LYN (He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, 1983)
Skeletor’s only competent henchperson (notice a theme here?), Evil-Lyn was often the most serious threat posed against He-Man. Her powerful magic and ice-cold demeanor make her the baddest lady on Eternia.

15. PRIVATE VASQUEZ (Aliens, 1986) A tough-as-nails Marine on an Alien-infested colony, the badly injured Private Vasquez detonated a grenade that took her own life but also that of several Aliens. And she totally zinged Hudson. Semper fi!
