[WWLA GUEST OF HONOR] MARC SILVESTRI Q&A

[WWLA GUEST OF HONOR] MARC SILVESTRI Q&AWIZARD: What makes Wizard World different from other conventions?
SILVESTRI: Wizard World seems to be able to key in on the community aspect of comics better than most. They really promote the idea that pros and fans belong to one big clubhouse where no one is excluded. Wizard wants to make sure everyone has a great experience and it shows. I think both the fans and pros benefit from the Wizard staff wanting to make sure everyone who loves comics feels like they are getting the red carpet treatment. People seem to smile a lot at a Wizard-run show.

What was your most memorable convention experience?
It’s a three-way tie actually. The craziness of the early days of Image when we had our own tent in Chicago will always be something to remember. Those days were simply nuts. Another was the first time I saw a fan dressed as one of our Top Cow characters. It was a guy dressed as Stryker from CyberForce. That was badass. Finally, I would have to say what happened at last year’s Wizard World LA show. That was when we found out Angelina Jolie had officially signed on to star in “Wanted.” Talk about an out-of-body experience!

Strangest?
When we premiered the “Witchblade” TV pilot at a movie theater in Chicago. It was the first time I’d ever been involved in something like that and I remember the entire evening as being very cool but also very surreal.

What do you look forward to the most when at a show?
Definitely meeting with the fans. I so appreciate that what I do touches people enough that they would want an autograph. I will never take that for granted! Of course, hanging with my peers is always a pleasure. We’re so spread out around the country that cons are really the only opportunity we have to share a beer.

What are your tips to a convention-goer if they want to want to meet their favorite creator?
It’s pretty easy. We’re there to meet the fans so it’s a mutual thing! Sometimes it takes a little patience (the lines can be a bit long) but I love talking to the fans, so hopefully it’s worth the wait. Plus, it’s not a crime to just come up and say hi!

What are your top five reasons why you’re looking forward to Wizard World LA?
Fans.
Fans.
Fans.
Fans.
Beer.
