My Bloody Valentine 3D
Friday, January 16
Rated R
3D technology has been tied to horror films for a long time. Part of that association comes from the fact that horror films generally use a lot of gimmicks to entice viewers to the theater. Sure, the films were mediocre, but when you could see something in "Shock-O-Vision!" you really didn't care about the quality of the film. You cared about getting a light shock in your seats.

That type of appeal applies to 3D films as well. In the '80s, audiences flocked to "Amityville 3D," "Jaws 3D" and "Friday the 13th, Part 3" because 3D and horror go together. The only thing better than seeing someone get decapitated by a monster is seeing their decapitated head fly out at you in three dimensions! Sure, it's a little crass and base, but it's fun!

Paul Blart: Mall Cop
Friday, January 16
Rated PG
Happy Madison is willing to give almost anybody a shot when it comes to feature films. Work with Adam Sander in a movie or two and he'll produce a film that gives you a starring role! It worked for Rob Schneider, David Spade, Allen Covert, Steve Zahn and even Anna Farris. For some, like Farris, the film is a hit and helps them establish feature film legitimacy. Will "Paul Blart: Mall Cop" make Kevin James a comedic staple or will he go the way of other faded sitcom stars like Ray Romano and Tim Allen?

The plot of the film is reminiscent of "Die Hard" but set in a shopping mall instead. Kevin James plays the titular mall cop, who is the only one capable of stopping some evil thugs who have taken hostages within the mall. Because he is fat and stupid, he falls down a lot and gets stuck in things. It's funny!

Notorious
Friday, January 16
Rated R
The Notorious B.I.G. was one of the best East Coast rappers around, but his career was tragically cut short in a drive-by shooting. That hasn't stopped him from remaining in the public consciousness though. When new albums of undiscovered material and countless cover stories in rap magazines aren't being released, Puff Daddy is releasing more songs about him. Biggie lives! Now he's finally getting the biopic treatment, as his life story is recreated on the big screen. Let's hope it's of a caliber befitting his bigness and not a stinker like "Get Rich or Die Tryin'."

TELEVISION

Battlestar Galactica
Friday, January 16
10 p.m. EST
Sci-Fi Channel
It's finally here—the thrilling conclusion to "Battlestar Galactica." You've been very patient waiting for the conclusion while the evil Sci-Fi Channel held it away from you. Now that the humans have arrived on Earth and discovered that it's a barren, uninhabited place, what will they do? They've always had the hope of a better life to pull them through their trials and tribulations, but that hope is no longer there. What a bummer.

UFC 93
Saturday, January 17
10 p.m. EST
Pay-per-view
Coming off the biggest UFC card in years, UFC 93 doesn't look so hot in comparison. There isn't even a title fight on this card, let alone anything that can match Evans vs. Griffin or Frank Mir's title win. There are a few famous guys on the card, but is it enough to get people to buy it? People will just have to judge for themselves whether or not Rich Franklin vs. Dan Henderson and Mark Coleman vs. Mauricio "Shogun" Rua are worth their hard earned dollars.

COMICS

Final Crisis #6
Grant Morrison (W); J.G. Jones, Carlos Pacheco and Jesus Merino (A)
DC Comics
We're entering the home stretch. There are only two issues of Final Crisis left and "Batman R.I.P." is over. At some point, Grant Morrison's grand plan will be apparent and the DC universe will be forever changed. The superheroes of Earth must unite in order to take down Darkseid and the gods of Apokolips. Not only that, but we'll learn the fate of The Flash and the New Gods! Will the good guys fail or will the helpful advice they receive from the "Crisis Control" hotline pull them through it?

Amazing Spider-Man #583
Mark Waid (W); Barry Kitson (A)
Marvel Comics
Spider-Man is a nifty and cool superhero, but he's playing second fiddle this issue. There's a variant cover by John Romita Sr. that features one of the only Americans more popular than the web slinger: Barack Obama. It's a neat variant cover, it's just too bad it only relates to the five-page backup story. Just think of it, the greatest Marvel team-up of all time: the president-elect and the wall crawler, taking on the Sinister Six and the bloated federal deficit!
